Loxton's superb golf course located 8kms from the town, presents a relaxed and social atmosphere, perfect for golfing enthusiasts. The 18 hole course has been ranked among the Top Ten courses in South Australia, the Top 100 Australian country courses and the Top 40 Australian public access courses, payable for less than $50 green fees.
The Loxton Golf Course, a picturesque and challenging traditional par 72 course featuring four par 3, four par 5 and twelve par 4 holes, is a true test of golf and is a MUST play for all golfers visiting the Riverland. Established in 1951 at the Loxton North location the course has been progressively developed by Club Members from their own financial resources over the years. The course was laid out initially by members and then changed in 1963 after Vern Morcom, then the curator at Kingston Heath, was consulted for his design skills. In 1976 Brian Crafter from Adelaide designed 18 grass greens and most of the original greens still exist today. The course features lush irrigated Santa-Anna couch fairways that provide a high standard playing surface all year. The fairways are also lined with eucalyptus trees, and numerous other native species as well as towering Alleppo Pines. Complementing these are sand bunkers on 10 holes and a varied range of grassy mounds on the surrounds of most holes. The bent-grass greens, described by Australian Amateur Seniors Champion Greg Rhodes as being among the best in the country, are widely regarded by many top golfers as the best greens outside Adelaide for their consistent borrow, trueness and quality. Facilities include: • electric golf cart and pull buggy hire • practice hitting nets • practice chipping/pitching area • practice putting green • powered Caravan/camping sites with access to club-house toilet and shower facilities. Visitors are always welcome, and while fields are usually light, other than during major events, bookings are essential.
