Ah… the Golf Handicap. We’ve tried our best to explain this simply.
What is a Golf Handicap?
A golf handicap is a number.
It’s number that lets you know how good you ‘could’ be at golf ?.
Ultimately, it’s a number that lets you compete against other golfers. It evens up the playing field, regardless of your ability.
Personally, its number that has caused me a lot of pain, because I very rarely beat my handicap ?.
Why is a Golf Handicap important?
Whether you love it or loathe it. In Australia, if you want to be officially acknowledged as a ‘ golfer’, you will need a Golf Handicap. Irrespective of whether you’re a beginner or a superstar.
As soon as you start talking golf.
One of the first questions you’ll get is. ‘What do you play off”.
Those with a Golf Handicap will often reply “I’m off (Insert number), but I never play to it”.
Those without a Golf Handicap will reply “Oh. I don’t have an official handicap, but I usually shoot (insert a score that is better than what they shoot)”.
Here’s the reality, if you don’t have a Golf Handicap, no one will take your golfing ability seriously ?.
Think of a handicap like a golf licence. It legitimises you as a golfer.
