ARE ANY OF THESE 4 THINGS HOLDING YOU BACK?

We recently surveyed 3000 potential golfers and these are the top 4 issues holding people back.

(25% of respondents)

Our golf pathway provides membership options for golfers of all abilities from ‘beginner to addict’. We pride ourselves on growing the game of golf by introducing new people to the sport.  Memberships include features like a free golf lesson and access to facilities like X-golf where you can improve your game.

Our team and members are also here to help you learn the game. We don’t take our golf or ourselves too seriously. It’s all about having fun, meeting people, improving our health and developing a skill.

“When I first joined Future Golf 3 years ago I was a beginner and scoring 120 for 18 holes, now I’m addicted, I play off a handicap of 3.4 and play at least twice a week!” – Nathan (Member since 2015)

4.  Golf makes me feel intimidated or unwelcome

The Future Golf Pathway continues to support traditional clubs

Most companies don’t like sharing stories of when they lose a customer. At Future Golf, we’re a little bit different and we genuinely celebrate when a member of ours joins a traditional membership at a partner club.

At the moment an average over 20 Future Golf members are joining a partner club every week, the best part is many of our members continue to maintain both their Future Golf and traditional club membership, which is great for the industry as a larger number of bricks and mortar golf facilities get supported.

Now for some numbers, If we conservatively assume the average young member will stay at their new club for 3 years and annual membership fee is $2000, at 20 members a week this results in $120,000 of lifetime value that is being directly injected into traditional clubs and the golf industry from just this channel. This doesn’t even include the social rounds, golf events, guest passes, referrals, lessons, food & beverage and pro-shop.

The best part about it, is these are younger members who are mostly aged 25-39 years old, who’ve never been part of club or are returning to golf. Which means our partner clubs aren’t poaching members from other traditional clubs, these are golfers who are new or re-entering the ecosystem.

Here is a message we received yesterday from Michael Walsh who recently joined Yarra Yarra, he’s is one of 7 number of members who’s joined Yarra Yarra over the past 12 months.

“I’d like to thank you and the Future Golf team for making the experience so positive. Future Golf was the perfect way for me to start playing golf again, to get to know other golfers, and to play some different courses around Melbourne. Despite playing regularly as a junior, I joined Future Golf after several years of not playing at all. Future Golf provides a much needed pathway for people like myself to start playing again, rediscover their love for the game, and go from only playing once or twice a year to being a full time member of a club playing every week. With golf struggling to attract new players globally, it’s great to see Future Golf offer an alternative to the traditional model, providing a flexible and approachable option for new and returning golfers. Keep up the great work, and I’ll try and join a few Future Golf events as a guest in the future.”

The thing we love the most about our model is that it’s having a meaningful impact on the future sustainability of golf at all levels. Our model is also nurturing the next generation of leaders in our sport, who will carry the torch and continue the the great work done by our past presidents, club captains, boards, committees, staff and members who have built the amazing clubs and course that we’re privileged to play.

We want to ensure that legacy of Australian Golf and our industry is thriving at all levels.

Guide – How to get a handicap?

Ah… the Golf Handicap. We’ve tried our best to explain this simply.

What is a Golf Handicap?

A golf handicap is a number.

It’s number that lets you know how good you ‘could’ be at golf ?.

Ultimately, it’s a number that lets you compete against other golfers. It evens up the playing field, regardless of your ability.

Personally, its number that has caused me a lot of pain, because I very rarely beat my handicap ?.

Why is a Golf Handicap important?

Whether you love it or loathe it. In Australia, if you want to be officially acknowledged as a ‘ golfer’, you will need a Golf Handicap. Irrespective of whether you’re a beginner or a superstar.

As soon as you start talking golf.

One of the first questions you’ll get is. ‘What do you play off”.

Those with a Golf Handicap will often reply “I’m off (Insert number), but I never play to it”.

Those without a Golf Handicap will reply “Oh. I don’t have an official handicap, but I usually shoot (insert a score that is better than what they shoot)”.

Here’s the reality, if you don’t have a Golf Handicap, no one will take your golfing ability seriously ?.

Think of a handicap like a golf licence. It legitimises you as a golfer.

How is a Golf Handicap Calculated?

WARNING – It’s complicated and it hurts my head trying to explain it. If you want to go down the rabbit hole click here for the official explanation.

How can you get a Golf Handicap?

In the interest of self promotion. One way to get an Official Golf Handicap is by joining Future Golf, we’ve tried to make the process as simple and easy as possible. You can also find players in our members lounge, use a Free round or book a Future Golf event to play your first rounds for your handicap.

Here’s how it works for Future Golf members:

  1. You join Future Golf and select a membership option with Handicap @ www.futuregolf.com.au
  2. You play 3 rounds of golf (18 holes).
  3. You score your round doing your best not to break any rules (see this FAQ for more detail https://futuregolf.com.au/faq/get-handicap/.
  4. You submit your scorecards via your Future Golf member portal.
  5. We look after the rest.

How long does it take to get a Golf Handicap?

Once you have submitted your 3 scorecards you will get your handicap within 48 hours (most of the time we try to do it same day).

What’s Next?

Once you have your handicap you can play golf events, win prizes, enter club competitions and submit social rounds that count towards your handicap.

You also get access to Golflink where you can easily track your scores and check your handicap.
